Cupping Notes: dark chocolate, nuts, peat (some say ‘earthy’) and the subtle tang of grapes.

Unlike most of the huge coffee farms in Java which were originally established by the Dutch in the 1700s and are now government owned and run, this coffee comes from small family-owned farms near Curah Tatal and Kayumas. Taman Dadar, which means flower garden, reflects the way this high-altitude coffee is grown, inter-cropped with tamarind, mimosa, coral trees, avocados and other edibles, for food and shade. This coffee is wet-hulled (see the explanation of this process on our site under coffee bean processing), where the coffee parchment is removed before the final drying, creating those distinctive Indonesian flavors. If you’ve tried and liked wet-hulled coffees before, from Java, Sumatra, Papua New Guinea or Timor, this may be the one for you. And if you haven’t given them a chance yet, give this one a try, alone, or mix it with one of our other single origins for your own personal creation.
