Tasting Notes: Fully washed and sun-dried with cherry, orange, caramel and milk chocolate notes.
This coffee comes from central Costa Rica, where 280 producers have formed a cooperative which cultivates a wide range of organic produce, including oranges, bananas, pineapples, ginger, turmeric, rambutan and coffee. Seventy-five of the members focus on coffee production. Cherries are delivered to the coop-owned mill throughout the year from small farms. Water used for processing is recycled and the coffee is dried using the coffee parchment to fuel the furnace. They have developed income sharing through an agricultural supply store, a grocery store, and by selling roasted coffee throughout Costa Rica. They also run a medical clinic and a pharmacy, thus creating an ideal model of a coffee industry which is both sustainable and concerned about the health of the planet and its inhabitants.
These beans are grown between 4,500 and 5,700 feet in elevation.
