These are indigenous heirloom beans from the Oromia region of Ethiopia, said to be the birthplace of coffee. As of 2020, the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (OCFCU), FTO since 2002, supports 400+ individual cooperatives, which includes more than 400,000 households, the largest in the country. The Union assures that premiums from coffee exports are returned directly to the farmers; it also funds organic farming programs, mill equipment purchases, and food security programs. The OCFCU is a founding shareholder in the member bank, The Cooperative Bank of Oromia, providing financing and crop insurance, which has historically been unavailable to rural farmers.

These beans are grown between 5,550 and 5,850 feet in elevation.
